Harwood Staff Blog Update - May 5, 2022

 5/5/22

Team -

Our Student Dialogue leaders have decided to focus on “looking back and moving forward”.  With that in mind they plan to use the following prompt for the May 18th dialogue - round 2.

Based on what we learned from our first dialogue, what can we do to start next school year off to create a culture and climate that is welcoming to all members of our community?

As we continue to work towards a community where all feel safe - seen, heard, respected and understood the voice of our students is essential in identifying next steps and needs.  We are excited for the take aways as we look to the end of the year inservice and summer planning and our concrete need to:

  • provide clarity for all regarding Harwood’s Core values

  • ensure clarity and clearly communicate Harwood expectations

  • create more safe spaces for students to gather for collaborative work and connections

In ongoing partnership,

Laurie, Meg and Duane

Thank you to our student team who has been working hard to kick off PA morning announcements!

This effort is a culmination of planning that stemmed from feedback from the all school, Student Government survey. Students reported that they weren’t always aware of opportunities, school news and important events. The group decided that one solution would be to conduct all school announcements using the PA system. It has blossomed into a place where news, opportunities, community appreciation (AKA “shout outs”) and a little laugh can be shared daily. We are thankful for Liz Hepp’s hard work to continue to gather information to be shared!

If you are unable to hear the PA from your TA space, please reach out to Ellen so she can compile a list to share with the Tech department.

TA update

Next week conferences begin!

  • Communication

    • Check in with parents/caregivers who have not responded by Friday, May 6th

    • If a family is unable or unwilling to attend, please work with the student to find another supportive adult with whom to meet. If this is not possible, please conference with your student on your own.

  • Student preparation

    • This is a great time to combine individual academic check ins with conference preparation.

Appreciation! To all of you for stepping up with enthusiasm to support Spirit Week Activities. This is a great opportunity to come together as a community!
