We will be sharing the results in the future, as it relates to our continued work toward goals and benchmarks. We have 308 responses out of 559 possible (7-12th) Hello staff, We have received naloxone (Narcan) and have distributed doses throughout the school (high school AED by the gym, middle school AED, health office and athletic department). Narcan is the reversal for an opioid overdose. IF you are interested in being trained, please let me know. Additionally, there are free in-person trainings coming up hosted by Central Vermont Prevention Coalition and Vermont Cares. |
Tech update | We are going to be bringing on a new product that will be launching next year. In preparation for this we have been recommended to change how we designate student group names. Currently they are <Grad Year>@huusd.org. They will be changed from Grad years to Grades. So these would change to: HU Grade7 (hugrade7@huusd.org) HU Grade8 (hugrade8@huusd.org) HU Grade9 (hugrade9@huusd.org) HU Grade10 (hugrade10@huusd.org) HU Grade11 (hugrade11@huusd.org) HU Grade12 (hugrade12@huusd.org) For the remainder of THIS year each of these groups will have the current email (ie: 2028@huusd.org for Grade 7) as an alias. So emails sent to the current addresses will still be delivered. Additionally the facstaff group (facstaff@huusd.org) will need to change to be consistent with all other school staff groups. So this will change to HU Staff (hu-staff@huusd.org) |

High School Winter Carnival | Student government is hosting the first ever Harwood Winter Carnival for the high school! This will happen next week (March 20-23), and we need your help! We’re planning to have activities during ELOs throughout all 4 days (1 ELO block each day). We have a variety of games and activities planned to spread out through those ELOs but we will need some assistance with monitoring and conducting activities. If any of you would like to help support some of these activities, it would be greatly appreciated. You can also continue to use your ELOs as usual. Below is the list of activities by day:
There is an indoor alternative for two of the events in italics, in case there is no snow On Thursday, high school ELO 2 is canceled; all 9-12 will attend/play in the staff vs. student basketball game. We would love to have some of you sign up to play in the game as well! Here is the link where you can sign up for any events you want to offer your ELO up for to support it. You are also welcome and encouraged to use your ELO for viewing the events. If you could sign up by the end of the day tomorrow (Friday), that will give us time to adjust ELO blocks in Adaptive Scheduler.
CHESS DAY! | Senator Sanders is pleased to invite young Vermonters to the First Annual Youth Chess Day on Saturday, April 1 at Vermont Technical College in Randolph!
Senator Sanders is a strong believer in the importance of after school activities, including in sports, hiking and the outdoors, the fine arts, music, dance, speech and debate, and games of logic, reason, and strategy. In his view, young people should also be able to learn and excel in chess, a game which demands discipline and strategy – intellectual tools which are of value to all of us. While we have a number of chess clubs around the state, Bernie believes we can do more to expand the game in Vermont.
To help more young Vermonters try chess for the first time – and for experienced young players to have the opportunity to compete against each other – the Senator’s office has organized a Youth Chess Day. It will feature learn-to-play sessions for students interested in trying out the game as well as a recreational tournament for experienced players. We encourage ALL young Vermonters in grades 1-12 to come join us. For more details, please see below. Students are strongly encouraged to register by March 17, as space is limited. (But they will take registrations after the 17th if there is still space).
Please consider sharing this invitation with any young people who may be interested in participating. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out. If you are a chess club teacher or advisor and would like to lend your skills to the event, please let me know. And, check out our office’s interview with Vermont’s youngest chess champion, Alexander Collins, who helped us announce this event!
