Team -
Based on feedback from the exit ticket at the faculty meeting this week, we wanted to remind everyone about the wealth of information that can be found in the blog each week:
OBJECTIVE of the blog: facilitate strong communication within our community. provide a resource for all to seek clarity or answers because we can’t always connect in person
Resources in the blog each week: |
In this week's staff meeting we dug into the work of the Student Support Collective and identified how we are ALL working collectively to foster a community of belonging. Some examples of how you’re doing this based on your responses in the exit ticket are:
Building community and relationships in your classroom
Creating space for mental/social and physical health in your classroom
Collaborating with colleagues
Observing students and supporting them when concerned
Other actions you identified as wanting to take include:
Avoiding judgment knowing that these are tough times for our young people
Referring students to a support or EST as needed
Creating more active safe spaces
Using ELO to build bridges and connections
Listening and partnering even more with colleagues
Communicating home
As they consider next steps, the Student Support Collective will take into account the suggestions/requests from the exit ticket including (but not limited to:
More time for DESSA next time
Time for small group scenario consultation
More time to share resources and successes with each other
Finally, if you have more questions or concerns regarding any student in need of support you can email or speak to Melody. She will provide suggestions and also will help with connecting you to the appropriate people.
In ongoing partnership,
Duane, Laurie and Meg

| Thank you for your time and engagement during this week's staff meeting. We are excited for the next steps in our work with DESSA, and the intentionality around our integration of data with support and interventions through the various programs and people in our building - a truly Collective Effort!
Timeline & Next Steps:
Student Self-Report Completion Why: Similar to what we shared at staff meeting, the collective will provide all staff with a Script to use to introduce the report to Students, and the importance of completing it, along with ways we utilize data to support students How: Powerpoint with directions will be provided to staff When to Administer: November 17th Where: ELO with TA What are we doing with the data? Using individually to ensure all students' needs are being met; collectively, using data to target particular skill definitions across grade levels, TA, and school. Morning Office hours: Prior to supporting students with the completion of the Self-Report, members of the collaborative will be available for office hours to answer any questions, practice the script, etc.
Next Student Support Collective Staff Meeting: November 29th - Share out of data, discuss and collaborate on connection with our programs and tiered supports, and practice implementation of strategies related to data sets
If you missed it, here’s a quick way to review what we discussed:
Please see our Slideshow, and feel free to reference throughout the year!
Please complete the Exit Ticket, if you haven’t already. Your feedback is essential to our continued growth and improvement. There were a few questions from the exit tickets, and we will be answering them and sharing out to you all in the next few days

| A couple of reminders: If you have any questions about the multiple viruses that are going around, please stop in and ask. We continue to offer Covid testing to symptomatic staff and students, educate students on mask wearing if they have a viral illness, and offer guidance to staff, students and parents regarding illnesses that are circulating. If you hear about any student out due to Covid, please let us know. We still have to report cases to the Vermont Health Department.
Here is a video from Dr. Becca Bell discussing the viral illnesses that are circulating in our community. She is a MD in the Pediatric ICU at UVMMC.

Staff Meeting
 | Objectives: Gift of time to update JumpRope and make sure you are ready for Quarter 2.
Staff Meeting Calendar Where: Your space When: 3:30 - 4:30 |
Quarter 1 comes to an end! | It’s here! The end of Quarter 1! This Friday, October 28th, is the official end of Quarter 1. What this means for both the high school and middle school: JumpRope progress reports will be emailed to families next Friday, November 4. Teachers should have scores as up-to-date as possible in JumpRope by next Friday. (This is especially true for seniors, because these scores are sent with college applications.) Now is a great time to check your courses’ alignment to the Harwood Assessment Plan (this is high school only, but is also a good guideline for middle school courses). Full-year courses should be on track for 4-8 different performance indicators assessed (not including Self Direction) All performance indicators summatively assessed at least three times by the end of the year 6-12 summative assessments for the course by the end of the year
It could also be a good time to fill out or check in on a table for tracking summative assessments and performance indicators. The example below was included in the syllabus template, and it will be helpful to have this filled out for every course as we continue our horizontal and vertical curriculum work.
