Team Harwood;
We are looking forward to Inservice next Friday 10/08. Our objectives for inservice mirror our priorities for this year except TA which we will focus on during our Staff meeting on Tuesday morning.
Objectives:
To connect as a faculty and continue to foster strong relationships among ourselves.
To continue to articulate our philosophy of teaching and learning at Harwood.
To provide clarity to ensure consistency and tune our new systems
We have also prioritized time for independent and Department work in order to help us feel more grounded as we move forward with the school year.
In partnership,
Meg, Laurie and Duane

Curious Topics | Information/Links | Contact(s) | Mt. Day | Senior teachers please note that you will not have Seniors on 10/06 - Mt. Day. | Laurie, Duane and Meg | ELO & Flex updates | Flex Block - just a quick reminder that if you haven’t introduced 10.02 to students and had them self-assess, this week is a good time to do that. There are seven sessions left (although two of them include an assembly).
ELO - all pre-booking of full classes for the three week rotation for the semester is done! Please continue to remember to book at least five students for each class every other week by the end of the school day Monday. A few folks have mentioned wanting to check in with students in class on Tuesday about booking to ELO. This makes sense, but please still have at least five pre-booked on Monday. You can always add more students in on Tuesday, or take out students you have pre-booked (as long as you still have at least five). | Jess | What lunch do I have on Wednesday? | Currently we are having a very uneven distribution of students in lunch 1 and 2 on Wednesday and are working to ensure the lines are more manageable.
As such - please ensure you have reviewed your ELO schedule on Wednesday and know what lunch you are sending students to. *remember if you regularly teach a block 3 it’s the same lunch you have on Mon/Thur.

| Pronoun Change Protocol | HUUSD is committed to fostering a school culture that respects all students. At Harwood we recognize that some students may prefer to identify by a first name or middle name other than their legal name. Additionally students may prefer to be recognized by a different gender identity, and preferred pronouns.
HUUSD has developed a procedure for students to request a chosen name/and or gender identity that with parent/guardian permission can be noted in Powerschool.
A student or parent can start this process by reaching out to their school counselor, who will explain the process and share the link to the Preferred Name/Gender Identity Change request form. We are aware that many students will discuss preferred names, pronouns and gender identity with their TA’s and classroom teachers. Staff will encourage students to meet with their counselor for more information regarding the new procedures HUUSD has developed. As always do not hesitate to reach out to us in the school counseling department. | Sally McCarthy |
