2. Transition Hub -

Middle Level educators,

We have been doing a lot of collaborative brainstorming on the coming Middle School merger, and we have started an "Information/Resource Hub" which can be found at this link.  This is a work in progress, with lots of details to be added, but we feel it is a solid home base.  Do feel free to suggest items/actions/links that should be added to this doc.

I have placed the Information/Resource HUB within the link cloud for easy access.

A few answers to direct questions that were asked at Monday's meeting:

1) Transition $:  We spoke with Brigid on this topic, and she is committed to finding appropriate monies that will allow the transition process to be smooth.  One source of that existing money is $110,000 that was earmarked for an assistant principal at CBMS.  As that position was not filled this year, that money is available.

2) CBMS Building Capacity:  Documents from the 1997 bond show that CBMS was built for 400 students.  It appears that this number comes from 20 classrooms with 20 students each.  This does not include the rooms for art, sustainability, tech ed, music, the gym, the library, maker space, or cafeteria.  Funding for the annex, with 4 additional classrooms, was approved at this week's board meeting.  Current numbers put the CBMS student population at 454 next year, which the current building plus the annex will accommodate just fine.

3) Special Education staffing and caseloads:  Duane, Stephanie, and I are looking hard at this topic, and we are committed to working towards appropriate staffing and caseloads.

3. Curriculum Alignment work
I am very aware that the middle school merger will require a review and plan regarding the curriculum as it pertains to science and social studies.  I will reach out to the teachers involved with this dilemma during the next week to set up a meeting to discuss possible solutions and/or a plan for how to move forward with this challenge.  Thank in advance for your time.
